Why flat-hunting is a pain in the ass- reason # 326

Me: "hi, I'm calling about the flat you had advertsised in paper"
Muppet landlord: "yes, it's located at 11b Hepara St"
Me: "OK, I'm in the area at the moment, could you tell me how to get there from the shops?"
ML: "I can't tell you how to get there"
Me: "well I'm just not sure where that street is, I just need a general idea"
ML: "I can't describe every street on the way there, you'll need to get a map".

Footnote- I managed to find the street. Directions from the local shops consisted of making one turn and following the road til the end. Shame on me for expecting so much a potential landlord.

Back in NZ

To all the people who have been wondering where I have gotten to lately:
1. Shut up
2. I am back in NZ, revelling in the abundance of barbeques, jandals and .

Since I got back I have been wondering what I could post on this blog that would sum up what it's like to be back in New Zealand. Then at the gym the other day I saw something that perfectly captured what I was feeling:

A Maori guy working out in the midday heat while wearing a swandri. Yep, that's as Kiwi as it gets.

Here is a picture of a swandri for those of you who are not familiar (it is a heavy bush jacket, typically seen on hunters, farmers, and citizens of small New Zealand towns)
